Aziz Dehkan
Board Member
Aziz Dehkan was born and raised in New York City. With a degree in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University in 1976, Aziz built a passive-solar house and started one of the first organic farms in New Jersey. After 12 years, he went into the environmental business, specializing in the disposal of hazardous waste materials. As a community activist, Aziz became a member of his local planning board, and then served as a Board member of two nonprofit agencies devoted to breaking the cycle of poverty.
A professional development manager, Aziz has worked for social and environmental organizations including the Humane Society of the U.S., The Coalition for the Homeless, The Fortune Society, Mother Jones, Peace Action Network of NY State, and the NYC Community Garden Coalition. As a community organizer, he was on the steering committee for the People's Climate Movement rallies in NYC, Washington DC and #Sandy5. Aziz is tirelessly searching for progressive solutions that support justice, equality, and liberation.
Aziz Dehkan lives in Clinton, CT with his wife, Barbara Moss, and their 13-yr-old dog, Tinkerbell. A dyed-in-the-wool pacifist, Aziz enjoys boxing as a challenging workout form, fully recognizing the irony of this choice. An enthusiastic cook, he loves American roots music, live theater, and the Yankees; dreams of a free Iran, and is grateful for the ocean’s positive ions.
