I am excited to serve as the Fine Arts teacher here at Lang. I am a Brooklyn-based artist with a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic Sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have lectured on art and history both nationally and internationally. A recent personal highlight was serving as the Visiting Artist at the Australian National University where I taught and worked on a series of sculptures about the Australian and Aboriginal experience in the First World War utilizing archives at the Australian War Memorial. I do narrative ceramics; combining my interests in history and art to make sculptures inspired by historical events and even more so by the people that history has forgotten. These "footnotes" of history focus on the forgotten protagonists and the disasters which reveal the costs of human desires, ambition, and folly. By creating sculptures, I hope to bring these lost figures to life, to have them step out of the photographs, diaries and letters that form the only record of their existence and to let them reemerge in three dimensions. My work is in the permanent collection of the Kinsey Institute and many other private collections.
