Middle School Math Teacher & Middle School Inwood Co-Advisor

LOYOLA UNIVERSITY MARYLAND - BA IN SOCIOLOGY
NEW YORK UNIVERSITY - MA IN MATH EDUCATION

While having taught 12-18 year-olds since 1998, I grew the most after becoming a mom in 2009 and then becoming a Lang teacher in 2020. Both of these life changes have helped me become more empathic, accepting, flexible, professional, and positive. My math students help me to be a better mother and my children help me to be a better teacher. I started my teaching career at The NYC Museum School (decades ago), then spent 11 years at Sleepy Hollow Middle School. My switch to private school was in 2015 when I joined Stuart Country Day School in Princeton, NJ. I joined The Lang School during the pandemic due to my need to work remotely for family reasons. This is when I truly blossomed into the teacher I have always wanted to be. At Lang, I am able to focus fully on a math mindset with individual students. I integrate The 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice into all my lessons, and I consistently lead students to access their own prior knowledge and strategies to develop problem solving skills. It is my intention to continue to grow, learn, and improve as an educator and as a human. In turn I regularly model self-talk, self-regulation, mistake-making, and recovering from mistakes. I love reading novels, completing the NY Times crossword, and I wish I had time to knit and watch TV! Bottom line: I absolutely LOVE it at Lang and I look forward to coming to work every day!
